Make an argument that supports your opinion of whether or not the drinking age should be lowered or remain at 21 years of age. Remember to cite any sources that you use to support your argument.
The legal drinking age should stay at 21. If the drinking age was lowered, crime, DUI and rape rates would increase. Picture this, a party is going on that is full of young adults consuming alcohol. One of the party-goers dares another person to steal some food for the party from a store down the street. A few of the intoxicated party-goers pile into a car. The driver is under the influence too. While trying to drive a couple of blocks down the street, every car that they passed was put into dangers path. At any moment, the driver could have blacked out, freaked out, or lost control of the car and innocent lives could have been claimed. Luckily, this unfortunate scenario does not happen on this car trip. The young adults find it humorous and daring to shoplift items from a convenience store while under the effects of alcohol. The teenagers are caught with the stolen goods. The authorities are called and the shoplifters are taken to jail. Mean while, back at the party, a young woman meets a young man for the first time. They start dancing together and they are having a good time. They both work up a thirst and the man leaves to go get a drink. The woman does not know that she is about to be drugged and raped, it did not even cross her mind. The man slips a drug into her drink and walks back to the woman. They both consume their drinks and a short time later, the woman passes out. The man then drags her to a bedroom and brutally rapes her. She will not know until the morning what happened, if she remembers at all. These scenarios are just a couple of ideas of what would happen if the drinking age was lowered. Young persons under the age of 21 are not mature enough to handle alcohol.
